Eppendorf AG has launched the first multiplex microarray test for the screening of GMOs in food and feed that has been extensively validated in a ring trial. The DualChip GMO kit, which can detect all EU-approved GMOs qualitatively, has been developed within the Co-Extra project of the European Union’s 6th Research Framework Programme (FP6). The validated platform is flexible enough to be upgraded in accordance with new GMO authorisations within the European Union. EuroBiotechNews spoke with Barbara Schaffrath, one of the experts from Eppendorf Biochip Systems, about the development and validation of the test, its salient features, its market potential, and perspectives in the field of GMO-testing.
